Sunset in the Village

Medium: Oil on canvas
Size: 40 × 30 cm
Year: 2025

In Olga Trikhleb's work "Sunset in the Village" (2025), the canvas space is divided into two horizontal registers: a dense, dark field of grass and a dramatic, saturated sky. The 40 × 30 cm oil painting is executed with dynamic, textured strokes that emphasize the movement of the paint. The lower part is rendered in deep green and almost black tones, contrasting with the blazing sunset. The palette of the sky is built on a sharp transition from a bright red base to golden, ochre, and lead-gray clouds in the upper section. The solar disc barely touches the horizon line, while the silhouettes of trees and rare white spots of buildings form a subtle boundary between earth and air. The dense texture of the strokes preserves the traces of the brush and palette knife, creating a tangible materiality of the surface and a restrained atmosphere of evening tranquility.
